Jacobson+Shoichet combined backup plan

Backups are performed on friday, on a circular basis

  • Position 1: Shoichet raid0-raid2
  • Position 2: Jacobson full
  • Position 3: Shoichet raid3-raid5

These tend to be small backups, a single tape should last a month or more.
We should rotate tapes, and keep an offsite.

Tape sets:

In arkeia, the following tape pools exist:

  • JACOBSON-FULL-a
  • JACOBSON-FULL-b
  • JACOBSON-FULL-c
  • SHOICHET-FULL-a
  • SHOICHET-FULL-b
  • SHOICHET-FULL-c

At any given time, one set is onsite, the other is offsite, and one floats. The idea is to always have one full backup secured at Iron Mountain, one full backup on-site.

Currently backups are run manually by Pascal on friday afternoon.
This is automatible.
