Janaina Cruz Pereira, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Freundlich's research lab at Rutgers University-New Jersey Medical School. She has experience in structure-based virtual screening, molecular docking, docking re-scoring, ligand-receptor interactions and machine learning applied to drug discovery. She finished her Ph.D. in Computational Biology and Systems at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During her Ph.D. work, she developed a convolutional neural network, named DeepVS, which uses the output of docking programs and learns how to extract relevant features from basic data. Given a protein-compound complex, DeepVS can classify the compound as active ligand or decoy with high accuracy.
