This is a stub for bioinformatics.
Bioinformaticsis a branch of biological science which deals with the study of methods for storing, retrieving and analyzing biological data, such as (DNA/RNA) and protein sequence, structure, function, pathways and genetic interactions. It generates new knowledge that is useful in such fields as [[drug design]] and development of new software tools to create that knowledge.

Historically, bioinformatics refers to the art and science of computer manipulation of gene and [[protein sequences]]. By its name, however, it should also refer to structure. However, [[chemical informatics]] is used for [[small molecules]] and [[structural biology]] or computational biology for [[macromolecular structures]] and [[assemblies]].
